General competition rules

  1. There are competitions for prints and for digital projected images each season. Trophies are awarded for some competitions, which may be open or for a set subject. There will be an Images of the Year competition near the end of the season. Full details of these competitions will be given at the beginning of the season.
  2. Prints must have titles, the entrant’s membership number and be marked with a “T” or an ”X” if appropriate [see below] otherwise they should be anonymous. Digital images should be given a file name that is the image title only and should be submitted on a CD (with the entrant’s membership number clearly written on the CD) or memory stick or email as advised.
  3. “T” should be marked on any entry into a set subject trophy competition otherwise it will be entered into the open competition. “X” should be marked on an entry to be discarded if the competition secretary feels there are too many entries. For digital entries, include a list of the titles entered with the CD and mark titles with a “T” or “X” as appropriate.
  4. The number of images an entrant may submit for a competition will be advised at the beginning of the season and adjusted during the season if necessary. For the 2011/12 season the number of entries has been fixed at 4 per member. These can be split across Open/Trophy sections of the competition as you wish (see point 3 above for marking your entries).
  5. Prints should be mounted on stiffening board no larger than 400mm x 500mm. Prints of any size, subject to the mounting limitations, may be entered.
  6. Digital images shall be sized to 1400 pixels horizontally and 1050 pixels vertically. Any blank space around an image should be filled with black. Digital images should be supplied in the sRGB colourspace.
  7. All entries must be handed to the competition secretary by the date published in the programme or as advised otherwise. All reasonable care will be taken of entries but Taunton Camera Club cannot accept liability for damage to, or loss of any entry.
  8. Entries can only be accepted from fully paid-up members who regularly attend club meetings.
  9. Entries must be the original work of the entrant. Photographs, paintings or illustrations by other people will not be accepted.
  10. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and an appropriate number of Highly Commended places will be awarded for each competition. The judge’s decision will be final. Images gaining these places will be ineligible for further internal competitions save for the Images of the Year competition.
  11. The Club will award marks as follows: 1st 10, 2nd 8, 3rd 6, and HC 4. In addition one mark will be awarded for each non-scoring entry. The marks will be totalled and aggregate trophies awarded appropriately.
  12. By entering a competition, members grant to the club the right to publish their photographs in the club programme or display them on the club website. The copyright to images remains with the photographer.
  13. With reasonable notice the committee reserves the right to alter any of the above rules.
